6 Ways to RE-SET Your Healthy Lifestyle
Hey friends! Can you believe its already April? This always seems to be the point in the year when I realize just how fast time is flying by. And if you’re like me, your starting to see some of that New Year’s motivation become a blurry to-do in the back of your mind. It happens to the best of us. You start sneaking a few sweet treats or unhealthy snacks. Your workouts become less organized and less motivated. All your good healthy intentions start to turn into future goals for another day. And then the side effects begin: weight gain, decreased energy, poor sleep, little pains come and go…. Who can relate? So let’s RE-SET. What can we do to regroup our intentions and get motivated again before the next quarter slips by?? I put together a list of 6 things to ponder and hopefully help you to get right back on track.
Purge your pantry (Or Do it AGAIN!)
Be honest. If you open your pantry right now, how many cheat foods have snuck back in (or never really got ditched). Get in there and get them out. The best way to find success with primal eating is to NOT have foods available that could sabotage your efforts. The pantry purge is how most people kick off their Primal lifestyle, and it really does feel good. Take an hour out of your day to toss all the junk, grains, sugar, and vegetable oils in your pantry and head to the grocery store to stock up on real food: vegetables, pastured raised meats, nuts, and good fats like avocado and olive oil. We are with you – a few unhealthy foods have crept into our pantry too (and freezer!). So lets do this together and get rid of the junk. Deal?
Set a Morning Routine
This one is huge for me. It is so important to start the day in a calm way and focus on what the day ahead means for you. What is your focus today and how will you approach unforeseen roadblocks? Every morning I have to center myself with some prayer time (and of course coffee!!). If I don’t pray in the morning, and spend some time in devotion, then undoubtedly my morning and often the whole day is a mess. Ask yourself what you can do to center your day and commit to those extra few minutes before the chaos of life gets going. Maybe make a list of your top 5 life and health intentions and post it somewhere as a reminder each morning.
Fast for 16 or 24 hours
We have blogged quite a bit about fasting and our own experimentations with it here. But basically, fasting can be an extremely effective and powerful tool to gain control over our food obsessions and misguided hunger cues. This is one of the quickest ways to turn our bodies over to fat burning mode. There is something empowering (and quite honestly convenient) about skipping 2 or 3 meals (or maybe even more if you are feeling up for it).
Spend some time moving in nature
Spring Time is the perfect time to get out of the house and enjoy nature. There’s nothing like a long stroll on the beach or finding an awesome new hiking trail. Nature and movement together provide incredible health benefits – stress reduction and improved sleep to name just a few. Walking is a low impact, low stress form of physical activity that will surely help you feel more motivated to get back into a fitness routine.
Pick your favorite “Crazy Hard” workout
I bet many of you know exactly which workout that would mean for you. Maybe its the awesome spin instructor that calls you out when your slacking, or a WOD that you have a love/hate relationship with, or maybe a heavy olympic lift that makes you feel like a boss. These sort of workouts take our adrenaline, confidence, and fitness to the next level. If you’ve been slacking with your workouts, sometimes an amazing “BRING IT ON” workout can be the perfect reset. ~ Need some ideas? How about some heavy deadlifts for max reps – 5 rounds and boom you’re a beast. Head to a group fitness class that you know you will love. Go to the beach and do Tabata Sprints. Whatever you choose – make sure you go BIG!
Invest in YOU
You are so worth it! Let me say this again, you are SO worth the time and investment it takes to make you the best version of yourself. There are so many resources out there to hold you accountable or even just inspire your health knowledge. Buy a great book about primal living, check out a new gym in town, join a Challenge Group (OHH 21 Day Reset coming again soon), better yet invest in a Health Coach (contact me here).
Of course we would love for you to join us for the next 21 Day Reset (you won’t regret it!). Or hire Rachel as a Health Coach – the results speak for themselves (check out these testimonials!). But the possibilities are endless in how you can spend a little money, make a commitment, and take your health to the next level.
So how about you, friends? How is 2019 treating you and in what ways do you need to get back on track???
Oh and stay tuned for the Spring OHH 21 Day reset ~ Launching at the end of this month!
